Position Summary
:The exploration of fundamental musical concepts through development of aural, oral, written, and analytical skills. Topics include staff notation, clefs, major and minor keys, time signatures, meter and rhythm, intervals, triads, 7th chords, foundational principles of counterpoint, Roman numerals, chord symbols and other notational conventions, cadences. The course contextualizes Western systems of notation within a global context. Cross-listed with MUMI121.
Qualifications – Required: PhD in Music Theory or PhD in Music (other than Music Theory) with a publication record in Music Theory scholarship in either Classical or Rock genres. Experience teaching music theory at the university level, either as an instructor or as a Teaching Assistant whose duties include a significant component of in-class teaching.
